17 SHRIMP MASALA/FRY
Though being a vegetarian(eggeterian), I cook non veg dishes for my family especially kids favourite shrimp many times as it does not need much of cleaning as I get the cooked cocktail shrimp from the store. This is a simple kind of shrimp masala/fry that can be done very fast.
Shrimp - 3 cups ( or the whole of the small packet size)
Onion - 1 medium chopped fine
Tomato - 2 medium roma chopped fine
Ginger and garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Dhaniya/coriander powder - 1 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp or can also use any chicken masala for better taste
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt as needed
Heat oil in a frying pan/kadai and add chopped onions. Fry till golden brown and then add ginger and garlic paste. Saute for a minute till the raw smell leaves and add chopped tomatoes. Mash and cook till pulpy and also till the water evaporates and oil starts to float on. Now add all the powders and mix well. Immediately add the shrimp and mix together for few minutes. Next add a cup of water and salt. Reduce flame and cook till all the water is drained and has thickened. The masala would have set well with shrimp and tastes great when served. If needed can garnish with some chopped cilantro/coriander leaves.
For better taste heat a tsp of oil and fry shrimp for 3 - 4 minutes and then follow the remaining procedure.
