2 DRY VAL DHAL CURRY
Val dhal/Dry mochai split dhal - 1 cup
Onion - 1 small chopped fine
Coconut - grated 3 tbsp
Red chillied - 3 or
Green chillies - 3
Jeera - 1/2 tbsp
Garlic - 2 or 3 pods
Hing - 1 pinch
Mustard seeds - very little
Urad dhal - very little
Curry leaves - few
Cilantro leaves - few chopped
Salt
Oil
Wash and cook the dhal with very little water until it is soft...make sure it does not break and retains its shape.
Grind together coconut, garlic, jeera and red chillies(or green chillies depending the colour needed) to a coarse paste.
Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dhal, hing and curry leaves...when they splutter add onions and fry till light brown...then add the ground paste and saute well till the raw smell leaves( around 5 minutes)...if needed can add little water too...finally add the cooked dhal, salt and cilantro leaves...mix and allow everything to cook together for another 2 or 3 minutes....this is a dry curry so can be used as a side dish with rice and also goes well with chapathis.
